School Eye Health Screening and Health Education Program

According to the Millennium Development Goals...

 

  • Over 90% of children with visual impairment have no access to any form of education

  • Poor eyesight is a major cause of school attrition

Services Provided

 

The school eye screening and treatment program helps detect early eye problems in students. Those students who have eye problems detected are then referred to the center for appropriate management. Visual screening of students and teachers are based on requests by the school authority.

 

Services:

 

  • Eye health education

  • Registration and visual acuity screening

  • Eye examination and treatment

  • Refraction and correction 

  • Provision of glasses

  • Referral as required

 

Costs:

 

  • Eye examination: $0.25 per student and $0.50 per teacher

  • Reading glasses: $5.00 USD

  • Medication: $0.25 - $10.00 USD
